When we think billboards, we think advertising. We think large board on the side of a highway or main road. What we don’t think is money or additional revenue. However this is what we should be thinking considering the amount of extra money that can be made from having a billboard structure on your property.
Billboards are a great way for companies to advertise. A brand’s money is stretched further due to the exposure that the advert receives as well as because of the length of time that the advert is up for. Whether it is a good or bad economic time, billboards are a great way to improve real estate property value. There is one thing that businesses will always need to do and that is, advertise.
There are many benefits to having a billboard structure on your property.
▪ Low cost placement
▪ Great exposure to roads, highways etc.
▪ Cheaper form of advertising for brands
▪ Extra income for the property owner
A huge benefit for the property owner is that billboards have very low maintenance costs. Offering a ground lease to a billboard company means that they take care of the necessary monthly or annual maintenance and checks.
▪ Cleaning
▪ Improving
▪ Overhead Costs
Having billboards on a property is the same as having tenants living on your property. The billboard company will pay a monthly fee to you in exchange for your space. The tenant (billboard company) is responsible for all maintenance and the property owner receives extra income on a monthly or annual basis- depending on the terms of the contract.
Billboards take up a very small footprint on the tenant’s property. Owners can still utilize their land for farming, building etc without being restricted by the billboard. Once a billboard has been put up onto a property, it will be used for a number of years. This is advantageous for both the billboard company and the tenants. Although billboards are a cheaper form of advertising, they bring billboard companies millions of Rands a year.
With each advertising campaign lasting a couple weeks to a few months, billboard companies regularly change the brand that appears in the billboards. This means new contracts for them and in turn more money for the billboard company. With billboards being a popular medium in the advertising world, more and more land owners are erecting billboards on their property. Having billboards on ones property acts as a side business. It brings in additional revenue that may be just the answer needed to help property owners through hard months and economic slumps.
